Carved into a volcanic hillside above the Abama resort, this is the course that stays with you long after you've left the island. The front nine climbs through lush subtropical vegetation — palms, dragon trees, sweeping fairways — before the back nine opens up with views that will genuinely stop you mid-swing. On a clear day you can see La Gomera floating in the Atlantic below, and the descent through what feels like clouds is as dramatic as golf gets anywhere in the world.

"The views from the front 9 as you head up the course and then look down through the clouds out towards La Gomera — I've played courses all over the world and this is right up there. It's the one I always save for last. Play the other courses first, build up to it, and then finish your trip at Abama. Trust me — you'll want it to be the last thing you remember about Tenerife."

Buenavista del Norte

The drive alone is worth it — over the mountains through Masca, watching the landscape shift from arid south to lush, dramatic north. Designed by Seve Ballesteros, the course hugs the rugged Atlantic coastline with some of the most spectacular holes on the island. A completely different experience to the south — cooler, greener, wilder.

Par 72 · Costa Adeje

Costa Adeje Golf

Unique in Tenerife for its perfectly balanced layout — six par 3s, six par 4s, six par 5s. The 4th is the hole that stays with you: the fairway tumbles down in stepped terraces framed by old dry-stone walls, the green hovering over the sea with La Gomera beyond. One of Lee's personal favourites on the island.

Golf del Sur

The course Lee and his son have spent years watching from their balcony. Originally 27 holes, currently undergoing a multi-million euro transformation. The 5th tee shot from high up is a genuine highlight, and the long par 5 14th will test anyone. Once complete, this course is targeting championship status and major tournament hosting.

Par 72 · San Miguel de Abona

Amarilla Golf

The first course Lee played on the island — and the one that hooked him. Relaxed in atmosphere, right on the coast, but the slope index doesn't account for the wind. It does whatever it likes and it'll be different on every single hole. Hole 8 is a standout: a short par 3 over the ocean — almost always into a brutal headwind.

Golf Las Américas

Right in the heart of the south, this lava-field course offers a dramatic volcanic backdrop unlike anything else on the island. Accuracy off the tee is essential with lava rock everywhere. Convenient location makes it ideal if you're staying on the main resort strip — and a good challenge for any handicap level.

Real Club de Tenerife

The oldest golf club on the island, founded in 1932. Set in the hills above Santa Cruz, it plays differently to the southern resort courses — cooler, more challenging, with a classic feel that serious golfers appreciate. If you want somewhere with real heritage and character, this is it.

Not every round needs to be a full day.

9 Holes · Par 3 · Played by Lee

Los Palos Golf

A lovely all-par-3 course with two loops, so you can play it as a full 18-hole round. What makes it genuinely useful is the TopTracer technology on the practice area — real data on every shot, not just hitting into a net. Perfect as an introduction to golf for beginners, but equally valuable for experienced players sharpening their short game in real playing conditions. One of the most underrated facilities on the island.

Los Lagos Golf

The 9-hole course within the Costa Adeje complex — and it has one of the most memorable holes on the island. The 4th: the green sits directly below the tee, the drop so dramatic you could practically putt off the tee box and let the ball roll down to the flag. It sounds ridiculous until you're standing there looking down — and then it just makes you grin. A great quick nine that complements the main course perfectly.

Beyond Tenerife

Tecina Golf,
La Gomera.

One of the most dramatic courses in the Canary Islands — and one of the least known. Tecina Golf sits on the southern tip of La Gomera, carved into terraced clifftops above the Atlantic. The views are extraordinary, the setting is unlike anything else in the archipelago, and the ferry crossing from Los Cristianos adds a genuine sense of adventure.
